Duties & Responsibilities
- Works from prints or drawings to produce a variety of items.
- Produces precision items beyond the capabilities of production machine operators.
- Follows lockout-tagout procedures when machines must be shut down for repair.
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
- Performs prescribed preventative maintenance on machines as required per the P.M. charts.
- Reads and interprets blueprints to plan the setup and operation of all types of machine tools.
- Plans set up and operate typical machine shop tools, producing parts to tolerances and company specifications.
- Clean up shavings of machine tool operation scrap and place them in the trash bin.
- Responsible for loading parts, proving programs, operating controls, setting offsets, simple edits, and inspecting quality parts to meet requirements.
- Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
- Detects equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjusts machines, within capabilities, controls or control media as required to ensure quality of production.
- Communicate with supervisor for assignments and to resolve machining or quality issues.

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Must be willing to accept and receive frequent supervision and assistance regarding machine set-up.
- Must be able to successfully perform the following tasks: milling, turning, drilling, tapping, deburring, bench operations, and inspection.
- Must be able to operate all common machine shop equipment and hand tools skillfully.
- Must be familiar with basic machine functions.
- Must successfully read and interpret blueprints.
- Must have intermediate knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments. Including but not limited to: calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators, and scales.
- Must understand G and M code
- Must understand geometric tolerance and dimensions.
- Must have knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts and other accessories used on various machines.
- Must be able to adapt to a changing work environment.
- Must understand basic math skills to include but not limited to the following: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry, and algebra for the purpose of calculating material fabrication.
- Must be able to follow instructions.
- Must be a self-starter.
- Must pay attention to detail.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Highschool Diploma, preferred 2-year degree
- At least 5 years’ experience as a fully qualified Machinist
- At least 5 years’ experience multi-axis machining or 3 or 4-axis CNC milling
- At least 5 years’ experience operating 2 or 3-axis CNC lathes
