Job description:
Job Title: Electric Motor Winder
Department: Motor Repair
Reports To: Director of Operations
Location: Odessa, TX
Job Type: Full-Time / Hourly
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electric Motor Winder to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for winding electric motors, generators, and related equipment. This role requires hands-on experience with coil winding, insulation, and troubleshooting motor failures to restore machinery to operational standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Strip and record winding data (turns, wire size, connection type) for AC and DC motors.
  • Wind and install coils using hand or machine tools in accordance with specifications.
  • Insulate and install windings, using appropriate materials and methods.
  • Test windings for continuity, insulation resistance, and balance using standard electrical testing equipment.
  • Document work performed and maintain repair records.
  • Adhere to all safety and quality standards, including OSHA and company procedures.
  • Collaborate with technicians and supervisors to meet repair schedules and quality expectations.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in electrical or mechanical trades preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in motor winding, preferably in a shop environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical theory and motor winding principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficient with measuring tools, winding machines, burn-off ovens, and testing equipment.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a standing position for extended periods.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with both form-wound and random-wound motors.
  • Familiarity with VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) systems.
  • Basic knowledge of ISO 9001 quality systems and practices.
Work Environment:
  • Industrial repair shop setting with exposure to noise, dust, and machinery.
  • Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required.
