POSITION SUMMARY:  The Lead Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for supporting all aspects of plant operations, maintenance, equipment repair, and safety. This role combines oversight of maintenance and plant staff with hands-on support to ensure operational efficiency, equipment reliability, safety compliance, and adherence to the company’s Quality Management System.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Collaborate with the Plant Manager to maintain production schedules and quality standards.
  2. Maintain housekeeping standards in maintenance, production, and common areas.
  3. Maintain documentation and reports as required for audits, safety, and performance tracking.
  4. Oversee all plant equipment to ensure proactive maintenance planning, including routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting mechanical issues to enable maximum productivity.
  5. Perform mechanical repairs on Raymond mill(s), pneumatic conveying system, jaw crusher, belt conveyors, motors, valves,  and other plant equipment to minimize downtime. 
  6. Monitor and maintain proper functioning of equipment such as conveyors, mixer, and control panels, addressing operational issues as they rise.
  7. Performs all other duties as assigned by the Plant Manager or other Company management.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.  High School Diploma or GED required; Technical or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
2.  5+ years of relevant maintenance or plant operations experience required; supervisory experience strongly preferred.
3.  Welding, fabrication, crane, and forklift operation experience required.
4.  Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
5.  MSHA certification and experience in an ISO or Quality Management System environment are highly desirable.
6.  First Aid and CPR certification required (or ability to obtain).
7.  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Outlook.
 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
  1. Thorough knowledge of mechanical power transmissions, crushers, conveyor belts, Raymond mills, front end loaders, forklifts, and basic fabrication concepts. 
  2. Basic understanding of electrical circuits and wiring, coordinate major electrical issues with Company approved 3rd party electrician. 
  3. Ability to operate, maintain, rebuild, and troubleshoot plant equipment used by the Company and to utilize power and manual tools required for the position.
  4. Knowledge of mechanical equipment design and general maintenance techniques.
  5. Superior trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a wide variety of audiences.
  7. Highly self-motivated and directed.
  8. Willingness and aptitude to learn unfamiliar mechanical equipment, tools, and machinery and to stay informed of new technologies.
 
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Strong communication skills required to manage maintenance team and communication with Plant manager to ensure safe and timely completion of necessary maintenance operations.
WORKING CONDITIONS: 
1. Will work in a plant and crushing yard environment with regular exposure to heat, humidity, inclement weather, excessive noise, electrical hazards and hazardous materials, including products, chemicals, components, and tools used in the repair and maintenance of plant equipmentand work in confined spaces, when and as needed.
2. On call availability 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to proactively respond to the Company’s operational needs; must be available by cell phone when scheduled to be on call.
3. Willingness and ability to work additional hours during the week and/or weekend, including 10-12 hour shifts.
4. Overtime is regularly required.
5. Will be required to drive to run errands and to procure and retrieve necessary parts, equipment, and supplies for the plant and Company management, when and as requested.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Able to continuously use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms
  2. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, squat, stoop, kneel, lean, bend, and crouch
  3. Able to regularly climb (including stairs, ladders, and other apparatusand work at extreme heights. 
  4. Able to regularly lift, carry, push, pull, and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift, carry, push, pull, and/or move up to 400 pounds (the latter with the assistance of a forklift, hoist, crane and/or other appropriate lifting support mechanisms).
  5. Able to use close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjustment of focus. 
  6. Required to regularly talk, hear, and listen in the process of communicating with Company management, plant operations personnel, and other third parties.
  7. Must comply with all safety and PPE requirements.
  8. Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to operate required power and manual tools, machinery, vehicles, forklifts, cranes, and all other Company plant and mechanical equipment.
  9. Must be physically capable of performing all work responsibilities in the environment described above.
